I always thought Xicos would be a great site for a bar, corner location etc. Would probably make more money as a bar. But perhaps they are happy doing what they are doing. Not all about money is it.

From what I know from the Jungle Telegraph the following bars are for sale

Round up Saloon( existing owner -Big Will- not in the best of health)

Flic Flacs( Ive seen livlier libraries in Chipping Norton)

Mungos (present owner also suffering not healthwise but financially)

Carvoeiro Bar( Best bar in town- I think Hans has had enough and would sell for the right bid)

Havana Bar ( Jimmy has this rented and would sell- Very small and only a person with insomnia could earn any money)

In all honesty for the right dosh they can all be bought cos apart from 12 weeks a year they are all suffering but as a highway robber Mr Turpin I would advise you that gone are the days when a gun, a mask and ten pieces of silver will have these so called skint bar owners falling at your feet

Jungle Telegraph or gossip!

I am sure all the owners mentioned will be very grateful to you for your in brackets and in depth analysis of their business!
Especially the owner of Mungos, I'd even bet the next time you go in they will give you drinks on the house all night NOT!

I agree the Carvoeiro Bar is the best in the area - well run and great site. Would be sad to see Hans go!

Probably a silly question but here goes.
We all know that our little secret ( carvoeiro) is out of the bag and each year we see more tourists arriving in increased numbers. Why is it that every so often we see bars closing or changing hands?

Back in 1981, in town, there were only Smilers, The Long Bar, Colombos, and The Bistro. "Out" of town (cos it was almost in the country!) was the Lanterna Velha. A bit later we got the Robin II. That was about it!

A prize for anyone who can say where they were/are, name them now, and say what happened to those owners back then!
