Can someone please help.....
I have just been advised by my bank that I get charged quite a lot if I use the cashpoint machine whilst abroad...
Does anyone happen to know what the charge is in the banks if I bring Travellers cqs and exhange them as and when? Also , would I be better off with Euro or Sterling Travellers Cqs??

This q. always generates lots of arguments but what I do now is bring loads of euros and stick it in the safe in the apt.

I often use my card abroad and have been advised by my bank Royal Bank of Scotland that the charge is 2.25% and the maximum is £4 on any transaction.The banks usually give good exc rate on the day therefore if you do not wish to bring euros this is a viable option.I am arriving on Saturday 21 June and this is my paln

I always use the cash machines and don't find the charges prohibitive normally £2 or £3 for each withdrawal.

It's time that GB get's the Euro! and does the same as the Dutch banks!. The Dutch Banks don't charge a cent when you withdraw from an ATM abroad!

I don't want to get into a political argument, but I would rather pay the commission and stay out of the euro.

I think cash card is best. Quite safe as no wads of cash or travellers cheques to lose or get pinched!

I have just checked my last statement and Lloyds charge me £1.50 per withdrawal and give the correct rate on the day. Thus best to draw the maximum each time.

Beware though as in high summer machines often run dry!!

It was my original option until the charges put me off...2.75% conversion charge then a 1.5% handling fee!!!.
I did think about the travellers chqs but the thought of queing in the bank does not appeal to me with the blazing sun outside !!!!!!.
I think they are going to weigh up the same anywayso will stick to the atms....

Just to add to the confusion - Perhaps a change of bank is needed - I always use ATM's when I travel and find that the good exchange rates often cancel out any charges.
