We have just booked a villa in Carvoeiro for two weeks at the beginning of June 2006. We found carvoiero.com and think it deserves much praise. Our Villa Agent gave a very good and personal service but we were a little doubtful of what we had let ourselves in for as none of us have been to Portugal before. Jane and I are btringing our friends John and Patricia. John used to work for the RSPCA, animal welfare here in England and will I am sure make us visit the Donkey Sanctuary. Animal loving John is a vegan . Does any one know if there is a vegan resaurant near Carvoeiro or a shop(s) that sell vegan foods please?

I'm afraid not, it's quite difficult to get vegetarian food here, never mind vegan. Maybe someone else will be able to help?

Did you discover the Sanctuary via FAQ? I do hope so as it's a recent addition and is worth supporting.

I don't know of any with a special vegan selection, but I think there are a few who would be able to do something 'off menu' given a little notice - I would suggest the Village Inn for one, and probably Bernard's in Ferragudo.

I know it is a bit out the way for you, but the Alambique in Poço Barreto, Silves does vegetarian dishes. If you were to ask Marlene, the owner, beforehand I am sure she would arrange something. The food is lovely. :D

There is a new vegetarian restaurant in Lagoa, just behind Finanças and next to the Social Security office. I do not know any more than having seen it when I passed by. To those interested it might be worth passing by.

I saw a post here early on.Criticising this post of Michael's.I'm in agreement and it seems a bit unkind and unecessary.

What was wrong with Michael's post? I don't see anything offensive, just tongue in cheek. In fact he beat me to it

He's probably gone to the Lincoln Christmas market. He figures that if he arrives two days before it starts he'll miss the crowds. :D
