Below is a link about the newly renovated theatre in Silves, which had its inauguration last Saturday. It is in Portuguese only I am afraid:

The inauguration of the new theatre was almost a century after it first opened to the public in 1909. It now has a capacity for 430 people. The maestro and pianist António Victorino played at the inauguration and it is currently holding an International Meeting of Archeology (7th to 10th Sept). The building is of historical interest.

When I first arrived in Silves I was amazed to discover the "old" theatre hidden away at the back of a café just along the road from the GNR building. A friend opened the door at the rear of the café and revealed to me a lovely, quaint, old theatre. I felt as though I had stumbled across a well kept secret.

I haven't been in the new theatre yet but it is very pink on the outside! I just hope that they have managed to keep the charm of that creaky, old place. It will be interesting to see what they are going to put on there.
