Going to Ikea isn't such a silly idea.
There's one in Lisbon but apparently the one in Seville ( about 90 mins drive ) is better and cheaper.
They also deliver within the week so you don't need a van!

Thanks for all your constructive ideas I'll certainly look into the idea of Ikea Seville. Also I understand that there is a Makro at Albufeira for electrical goods etc.

Don't know the Ikea delivery charges.
For electrical goods, there is a huge store at Guia called Radio something - it's next door to the Nike superstore and a few doors from Conflorama.

Think you mean Radio Popular. There's also Wortons in Algarve Shopping. It is not exactly an Ikea clone but Sofavip in Lagoa is worth a look for furniture, since it is not far to travel. Very pleasant showroom and helpful staff. We bought sofas and dining furniture there.

We bought our bed at Style Furnishings, since we wanted something larger than the average Portuguese bed. Would also recommend, especially if you want a UK bed. (Elaine imports from the UK).

there is also a small portugese furniture and bric a brac shop in Porches between the kitchen shop (Kraft) and the cafe - we got our beds and dining table from there and found them to be very helpful and fairly reasonable. its called Calisto Movies
GOOD LUCK
