WE ENJOY HOLIDAY DELIGHTS
Britons are the biggest boozers on holiday and the most likely to get into trouble with police.
They are also the worst at staying in the sun too long and the first to run out of money, a survey of holidaymakers from 16 countries by Halifax Travel Insurance has found.
But Britons were the most likely to speak in a local language and the second most likely - after the French - to sample local food.
They were third most likely to get interested in the local history or culture and third for mixing with other nationals.
The British holidaymaker was the likeliest to have a holiday romance and to get home sick as well as runner-up to the Germans in putting towels down to reserve sun loungers.
Britons were the top nationals for use of the internet to organise and pay for their trips and second, after Australians, for getting off the beaten track.
Vicky Emmott, of Halifax Travel Insurance, said: "We all know that a few bad apples give us Brits a reputation for being holiday hell raisers, so we thought we should see if there is another side to the story.
"When you look at the overall results, Brits do actually come across as adventurous, determined to join in and get under the skin of the country they are visiting."
The 16 countries involved in the survey included France, Germany, Japan, US, Australia, New Zealand and Holland.

I live here in Carvoeiro and am British. About Brits given a reputation as holiday hell raisers it is true. We are mostly woken up after 3a.m in the morning by British either arguing or absolutley drunk shouting. Yes I agree you are on holiday but at least give a thought to the local people who have to get up early and go to work. In all the years I have been here not once have been woken by other nationalities. And sometimes it has been couples arguing along the road using foul language to each other which does not sound very nice at all. Once my next door neighbours dog started to bark in which 3 English guys started to make a barking noise, I overheard one say, "B..... hell he sounds fierce" They continued to act like a dog which made my neighbours dog bark even more. There are people here who have young children sleeping and it would be nice for these people to consider this. At the end of the day if we were to act like this in their place they would not like it. Please consider the local people here.

Some of my best friends are Brits, but I wouldn't want to live near them when they are on holiday
(unless they are buying, of course)

What I would like to know is how they carry out these surveys? Did they ask various nationalities questions directly e.g. how many beers did you drink whilst on holiday, how many people did you snog or have sex with or how many times did you put a towel on a sunbed? If that was the case then the British would have been so pi**ed they probably wouldn't have remembered anyway
Seriously, does anyone know how they carry out these studies...I am intrigued?

Article in the UK Sunday Telegraph about the Germans complaining that the Russians grab all the sunbeds in Turkey and that they are low class tourists. One major German travel company has alledgedly suggested that they have Russian only hotels too keep all the rif raf in one place
