I rang Monarch and a nice gentleman at a Call Centre could not give me a decipherable answer.

Anyone know why there is a discrepancy in the outward and inbounnd flying times

we noticed this when we flew from East Midlands a couple of times Dave.....
about 2 and half hours going out and a good 3 hours coming back(seemed forever specially at night)......different flight paths maybe?

Hi, I fly from Leeds Bradfordon Jet 2. and it takes about 2.5 hrs. the fastest was with Air Icelantic from Manchester on a Tristar, 2 hours. they don't mess about

The schedule has nothing to do with flying time (i.e. time in the air).

They take into account taxiing time, which at some airports can actually eb quite significant, and they also add a fudge factor based on the airport infrastructure to allow for delays and vaguaries of ground control.

This way, having put in all these fudge factors, they can take off 30 mins late, and just before landing the captain can announce a perfect on-time arrival, and increase their league table scores.

Cynical or what ?

May well depend on what aircraft they are useing per trip. A 737 travels slightly faster than a airbus 321. On that distance could well be the difference. Why would you want to go back to Manchester anyway? Two iffy football teams this year! Mike, Chislehurst.
