Bit of a long shot, but I am always surprised by members knowledge!

Some friends of mine are looking to have IVF treatment. However, it is unlikely that they will get it on the NHS and the local private hospital is quoting about £6,000 a go - seeing as it is estimated that it takes three 'goes' to be succesful, this is a lot of money.

Does anyone know where you can get IVF treatment in the Algarve, and what it would cost?

Why are they unlikely to get it on the NHS?

My brother and his wife paid privately and it cost them £1000 a go. They had three unsuccessful sessions and then gave up. However when they gave up she fell pregnant naturally. I now have a wonderful nephew as a result.

I was reading in the Guardian last week (or before?) that there are now links between IVF clinics in UK and some in Spain (among other countries) I think it was to do with egg donation. Something like a three year + waiting list in uk but not in spain? Check out the Guardian website - as links have been set up already the negotiations are easier I think...

I've searched the site - and I can't find it sorry. If I come across the article in the recycle pile I'll let you know?

PS Probably can't find it on Guradian online search engine since you have to guess how they will mis-spell IVF !!

I know there is a clinic in Jerez that does it. 3 hours away from Cvo
