Made the trip to Lisboa last week for the first time.

Went by EVA Quality coach from Portimao. Only stop en-route was Lagoa so would also suit CVO members. €27 return and journey takes approx 3 hours. Coach maintained a steady 100 kpm on motorway so they obviously cruise at their governed speed.

Air conditioned coach with a movie to watch on the way.

Given motorway tolls, bridge tolls, petrol cost and the cost of alternatives I doubt you could do it much cheaper. I suspect it would also work out quicker than self drive allowing for queueing at tolls or getting the ferry or finding parking.

Strongly recommend it to anybody that has been wondering about going to Lisboa.

Don't know about that one Lesley....but as you know I did trip by coach from Lagoa last year and its exactly as Guest states....
very nice leisurely journey with none of the hassle of driving!

Mine cost 30euros return last April.

You can check routes, prices and timetable on-line and book upto 8 days in advance. Seats are reserved so no hastle getting on.

I shall be driving from the airport at Christmas. Does anyone know if it's an easy route from there to the main motorway going south?

Bridge or ferry seems to offer a choice . . .

Yes very easy you do have 4 choices 2 ferries and 2 bridges. The two ferries take longer and you would need to head towards the centre of the city. As you would if you used the Ponte 25 de Abril. The one you need is the Ponte Vasco De Gama which is not only closer to the airport but is much longer and passes over the Expo site.
Its signposted from the big round about as you come out of the airport.

He must certainly know the area round the airport. Did he not spend a whole holiday navigating that area. (Mind you I think he went up and down the marginal three or four times as well)
