Does anybody know the phone number for this great little restaraunt.
It is next to the entrance of rocha brava.

Is it really good? I've walked past it dozens of times and always thought it looked like a cheap cafe. Maybe it just shows that first impressions can be wrong

Never been disappointed at the Jardim.

Except about the way they serve fish. But then all P restaurants seem to serve fish that way - head, fins, tails and all. Would never succeed on that score in Canada. And then the waiter had the insensitive nerve to insist that it wouldn't be "manly" to order fish deboned and headless!

Otherwise, deservedly popular place to eat.

Probably one of the best local restaurants and it is definitely advisable to book. Sorry I can't help with the phone number.

It's all in the culture, isn't it.

But, sadly, my bol absolutely refuses to dine at the Jardim now because of what he considers their disrespectful attitude to him as a customer when they refuse to at least debone on macho grounds - probably meant to be a good natured poke in the ribs but unacceptable to him (he has Spanish blood, interestingly.)

We have had absolutely wonderful weather here for CD weekend. Hope you are "weathering" all the storms out West.

Hi SHOWWWY ..nice to see Canada here ..Weather here in Lincs is beautiful today...in fact been nice weekend..perfect English summer day..sun ..little fluffy clouds but nice breeze..almost fell asleep in 'Jardim' ...
Have you tried Casa do Pao...CVOs Rua do Barranco? I've had lovely fish there...and a waiter will bring you fish on his trolley..and bone/fillet it for you..I've always found them very attentive....
but surely you don't mind 'sardinhas' whole?....Im not sure....but doesn't it retain the flavour?..
Im not keen on their staring eyes ..but I try to overlook them

back to the restaurant... We used to go there quite often several years ago and liked it. Sometimes we went for a drink at the bar only and were treated quite rudely, as it seems they wanted to use the bar only for patrons waiting for a table. So we stopped going there. Now we are staying closer to the centre and we don't venture out that way in the evenings anyway.

We have used Jardim de Farol for many years. Food is good and the prices are reasonable. They used to provide a phone number on their card but stopped doing so after a number of phone bookings turned out to be no-shows and the tables remained empty while would-be customers were turned away. The owner said the offenders were often Canadian ( but I suppose Heini and Showwwy they could have been American!) My sister has American relatives who book at more than one restaurant and then decide near the time which one to go to - but perhaps it is a family thing rather than a national habit.

Anyway you now have to book in person at Jardim and since it is a small and very popular restaurant they look to try and get two sittings in per evening. This means that in season you won't get an 8pm booking.

My wife usually manages to get her fish filleted there but being macho I do my own thing. I am sure that the waiter's reference to unmanly was probably humour which did not come across well at a time when they were busy but I know that such things can put people off.

I dunno it beats me.You got kids starving in different parts of the world and bunch of fussy Canadians on here over some bones in their fish.Get real will you.Think yourself bloody lucky that you have food to eat

OK. Now I'm confused. Julios and Jardin are about 600 metres apart. Anybody eaten in both and could give a comparison. Price, ambience, quality.

I've had a couple of average meals in Julios so would like to have a benchmark to compare against. Oh, and has the new one in between opened yet?

Anyway, wife and I always eat at Jardim. She enjoys the fish. I don't. I choose something else. Just thought I'd mention the boning issue and how it affected us. Stuff it eco if you don't like it.

Have usually found the staff there to be exemplary really.

But yes, we always try to book a day or two in advance as they are usually well booked.

Wines are great.

Usually a complimentary port and/or treat thrown in too.

Have enjoyed lunch and drinks on the patio too.
