can anyone recommend a good doctor in Carvoeiro?

Dr Veira Karin..he was recommended to me by kteee and I second that..
very nice chap.....
D'you know the paper kiosk up by taxi rank? Behind that are some stairs that lead up to the left ..his surgery is at the top..

Hi Ellie, this isn't the 'German' Doctor is it? Allie went to one last summer as she went down with tonsillitis, she saw a woman dr who was very good but we thought rather expensive, the consultantion cost 60 Euro plus the antibiotics from the pharmacy. Is this a different one? and what sort of charges for a visit do you reckon? Will need a dr while we are out during the summer for blood tests.

Dr Vieira(thanks for the spelling Francien )...is Dutch and very nice chap indeed...
as I say..kteee put me onto him as I needed a certificate for my back.
Idon't know his usual fees but expect Kt will tell you more.
I just paid the 30euros for the cert&letter he gave me...for my insurance..
which in turn paid for my altered flight!

p.s. Are you all dried out there in Somerset now?..saw the pics of Glastonbury

The German doctor is above Smilers - I haven't been there so can't comment but I think Dr Vieira is very nice - he probably charges 25-30 euros for a consultation, but I haven't had to see him for a while so I'm not too sure.

He speaks good English too!

Why do you pay to see a doctor? We went to the health centre (not cvo) , waved our e111 and paid 2 euros + pills.

Good point pm but I had heard from friends who used the one localy that it wasn't very nice, which is why we went with a private Dr. Maybe I should look gain at the local health centre.

kteee, do you have a phone number for the Dutch Doctor (Dr. Vieira) and would you know the clinic opening hours? Thanks

No problem - 282 350780, 9-12 and 3-6 Monday - Friday - he also advertises in the Resident!

Don't you have an insurrance that covers this?

The local health centres are a lot cheaper, but you have to wait a long time and the doctors are not as good as we are used to. I hate to say this, because I love Portugal a lot, but it is the truth.

I think it probably depends on the day you go, time of day and the luck of the draw. I went to the Centro da Saude in Silves once with my mother and we waited over 3 hours and gave up and went home. They give priority to children and so kids just kept going in in front of us. Children arrived seemingly with minor problems and suddenly developed extremely serious symptons (one girl went outside and collapsed in the car park), when their parents saw the size of the queue. After she was rushed through and seen immediately she went back outside to play with her mates!

However, on another occasion my mum got seen within an hour and said the doctor was very helpful and competent, despite the language problem ie mum's useless Portuguese. Bruxy
