Hi,
Are there any squash courts in CVO?
The information on internet is a bit confusing. The small maps of Carvoeiro Clube on this site show a tennis & squash club, but
http://www.carvoeiroclubedetenis.com/ doesn't mention any squash courts.
Thanks

Hi Guest,
Regret there are no squash courts in Carvoeiro. (None that I know of anyway). I use the court at Hotel Belem a three star in Armacao de Pera. It is the most unlikely place to find a court, but it is of very high quality, glass-backed etc with viewing gallery, I was amazed !
It is only €5.10 per hour too.
Regards
Peter

Hi
Does anyone know of any squash courts in good condition in and around either portimao, Lagos or lagoa. The previous comments on this subject are a bit dated and I am having trouble finding some up this end.
Thanks

Although I am not all that good at squash, I used to play weekly with my sister and I too would be interested in any squash courts locally.

My husband plays several times a week and would love a game when we are in CVO, we go to our place at least 6 times per year.
If anyone knows of a decent court, please let me know.

I too was looking for squash courts to have a few games whilst on holiday.
I was contacted through this site and managed to play a couple of games at the Hotel Belem with plans to play each time I came back.
Unfortunately my squash partner has informed me that the Hotel Belem has now been sold and the new owners are going to use the squash court for a different purpose. He is on the lookout for another place to play.
I have visited squash Portugal websites to see if I can find any clubs in the Algarve but with no luck. My next plan is to e-mail the name of the person mentioned on the squash pt website and see if I can elicit some information.
I believe there is another hotel in Aramancao de Pera that has a court but it is apparently expensive to use. I also have found reference to a couple of hotels in Praia da Rocha with a court although I have not yet found them!
There were plans to put a squash court on one of the developments near the Vale de Milho golf course but I asked at reception and that plan never got off the ground. I also asked at the Infor bureau in CVO and they couldn't provide much help.
If anybody does find any courts within reasonable distance of CVO and is out at the same time as me (Sep 4-18 and Dec 16 to Jan 6) then I would be keen to play.
Unfortunately squash is a declining sport even in the UK and it appears to me that it has never even got off the ground in the Algarve!

Bingo - Found one.
Not in Carvoeiro and I haven't a clue about the standard of the court but there is one in the Apartamentos Squash in Praia da Rocha.

Phoned the chappy to confirm and yes it's there for sure.
Give you a game in September now Ian - Hope your knees are giving way so I get a chance !

I have been doing a bit of Googling and by searching on 'Squash Silves' it has told me that the Hotel Colina des Mouros in Silves has a squash court.
Harlequin tells me he will check it out next time he's passing.
For anybody desperate for a game there are 2 courts at a leisure centre in Burgau but that is well down the coast beyond Lagos.
If anybody finds any more information please post it on this thread.

Went to the "Energia" (I think it was called that !) gymnasium in Silves and found a glass backed squash court there. The floor is laminated so can't vouch for under-foot stability/bouncability ! If it doesn't bounce go down to a red spot ball !
It is opposite Modelo in Silves, down a tree lined lane, lots of parking etc.
Not expensive at 5 euros an hour !

Played at Energi last Thurs and ski'd for Great Britain ! Not good footing but got a good sweat up and cannot complain I suppose for the 5 euros we paid.
The laminate floor "moves" and at one stage I thought my opponent was right behind me, but it was the tile following me in mid air ! More Fred Flintstone starts than you could imagine.
I have been reliably informed that the Apts Squash court in Praia da Rocha is of better quality so will be trying there on Wednesday with pals !

Just thought I'd pull this one back to the top as I arrive on Thursday 4th for 2 weeks.
Hopefully I will get a couple of games in with Harlequin at the squash court in Praia. If anybody reads this and is looking for a game of squash (reasonable club level) in the next couple of weeks then please PM me.
If anybody has found any other courts in the area since this thread started then I would be interested to know.
Ian.
