not done it for a while so was wondering if the roads have changed when picking up someone from the airport. Is it still the case you cannot pick up or drop off on the road nearest the terminal? Also which is the best car park to park in and is it pay and display?

 Hi, don't know if I have got this right as we always use the car hire company therefore don't need to pick up or drop off. It seems that as long as you don't leave your car, you can drop off and pick up in front of the airport, there is a pay carpark right in front also, which is quite expensive but if you are only there for a short time I don't suppose it would be that much.

If you follow the signs to the short stay (I think either P1 or P3) it is still cheap - I think I paid about €1 for an hour last time I picked some one up.

And yes you are correct the drop off zone is just for that - ie you can drop off some one there but if you want to go into the terminal with them and see them off or are waiting to collect them it is safer to pay your €1.

When we arrived at Faro, the taxi was waiting parked in carpark immediately in front of arrivals - we got stuck in long queue of cars at exit barrier some of which were then having to reverse and park up.
Taxi driver said you have to pay in airport? to get a card to insert into machine to raise barrier to get out? Don't know which car park it was but think people should be aware of it as the locals were beeping their horns at the unaware tourists who thought they could just put money in the slot

Not a problem in the short stay. You take a ticket when you go in. Pay at the pay booth (in the car park - easy to see as you come out of the terminal) when you go back to the car. Pop the ticket in the barrier and off you go
