Does anyone know what all the roadworks in the square are for? I think I can see a no entry sign as well. Mike

It's a new sewage system being installed

I didn't notice any pongs from the old system! All we now is the rain to flush it away. Out of curiosity, where does it go when it reaches the square and it what "state" is it in? Mike. Nice subject for the weekend!

The beach is actually the starting point - it is being taken out of the village to a new treatment plant.

Is the starting point the mens toilets on the beach? My kids used it last summer, said it was filthy and refused to use it again

I think it's just a central 'collection point' for the village

Does any one know the proposed completion date of sewer installation ?
On the assumption that excavations may take place along Rua Do Barranco what level of disruption should be expected along that route. I am assuming that due to the narrow carriage way closures and diversions will come into it.
I have thoughts for A September visit.

As far as I know, there are several phases that are going to affect the main outbound road, Boavista and Sesmarias. It is said that the total projected time for all these phases is 300 days - they started in April so the all works should be concluded in Feb 2006. However, a large part of that project will be the actual construction of the treatment plant somewhere near Boavista/Sesmarias and the pumping stations- the pipes should be in the roads before August.

Assuming the road out of town is a no go, where exactly is the traffic being diverted to please. Mike

They work in short segments placing sinage for the alternative routes (yellow "DESVIO" signs) - currently they are diverting through Monte Dourado.

My advice to everybody at this point is to avoid going through town unless it is absolutely necessary. You are better off using the back roads via Poço Partido or Sesmarias to access the urbanisations around Carvoeiro.

As the desvios change on a daily basis, we will not be able to keep you updated on which road segment is affected at any given time, but I am confident that the sinage will be straighforward and the alternate routes easy to follow (at least they have been untill now).

Lets hope the roads are resurfaced after all this work, some were already in a pretty poor state before they started all of this digging.

The side walks too! The paving in some parts is terrible where the cobble stones have been dug up.Im surprised there are not more accidents when walking.

Having just returned from two weeks in CVO we asked in a couple of bars/restaurants close to the square, what the excavations were for. We were told that it was a sewer which would run two miles out to sea! Imagine our horror! We were thinking we would have to give up eating fish. Hope the correct answer reaches the holidaymakers, before they threaten not to return.

At present the sewage is being pumped into the ocean, the roadworks and the construction of a clearing station are going to change that.
