That is what I heard, but could not fund any evidence on any Smokie websites or history.

Nah - just seem to recognize him and can't think where from and it also occured to me that someone of his musical ability and age must have been around in a reasonably high profile band in the late 60's and 70's.
I think he is extremely good and very entertaining.

All these posts have been good ads for the Jailhouse eh? Presume they are just starting up properly for the season! Do they advertise on cvo.com?

Actually I've known Bobby (not his real name, you know, he had to change it to protect his anonimity) for some years and can state that actually he started as a stand in for Chris Rea when he was too drunk to perform. Unfortunately Bobby used to get drunker than him which is why he ended up in Portugal.

Having played in numerous bands over the years It was quite common to join various named bands especially in the late sixties early seventy's for a period of time when one of original members needed to dry out/rehab whatever. So I suspect Bobby could well have been a former band member although perhaps not for an extended period of time.
The man's obviously got a talent aquired from age and experience and gives 110% when he performs - well done!

I am the step-brother of Terry Uttley who was a founder member and the only original member of Smokie remaining in the current band, he has never heard of Bobby.
Artistic licence methinks!
