Dont you all think that we NEED a bit more, than just Wine shops and Restaurants in Carvoeiro

You can forget the number of restaurants in Carvoeiro.Because they are so many.

(75% of them non working in a perfect year round basis)

Unemployment or should i say owners always running from their responsabilities.

Why so many wine shops in a 600mts distance

Can someone explain these queries to me

Why choose a tourist resort to "live" ?

I guess market forces should work here - if there wasn't enough business we wouldn't have as many wine shops, restaurants etc.

It is primarily a tourist resort and if we have another summer with the same number of tourists as last year you may see some local businesses close - not sure I would prefer to see empty shops

Possibly some may think its not for me to comment - not being "Carvoeirense" - but its my old mate supply and demand again really isnt it ??

As ktee has stated - demand in the resort led to the supply of wine shops etc - now it seems demand is falling and so inevitably will supply !

As another has alluded to - these perceived "lack of facilities" are symptoms of the precise reason why we live a few miles inland - far enough away to escape the "madness" that is high season but close enough to have most of the advantages of the resorts except going out for a few beers there (unless you use a taxi).

I know I keep bangin on about this but it seems that Algarve tourism is in a major state of change and the whole issue of supply and demand for "tourist" type facilities will change with it.

It may already be happening Kteee, on my recent visit I noticed quite a few ''Vende-se/for sale'' signs about the place on commercial premises.

Just think what do you as a tourist want to buy when on holiday?. Now you have the answer to what type of shops you find in the village.
How many residents shop in the village other than for bread, newspapers and the odd bottle of wine.

Perhaps you may note that suddenly we have a couple of new shops this spring selling casual clothing and shoes so perhaps there is a slight change to the craze for wine shops.

I think Jaylay has raised a very good point.

Residents should support local shops, which in turn generate jobs and a community atmosphere. I see this in our village in the UK and wherever possible we support local shops and will do the same when we move out.

The problem for residents is that shops in CVO tend to aim at the tourist market and price their goods accordingly. People on holiday either don't care what they pay or have no appreciation of the cost of things in Portugal. I am happy to shop locally but I am not prepared to pay inflated prices for the privilege.

It tends to be Silves or Guia for me because the prices are generally lower and the choices are wider.

If you are a keen shopper a trip to Spain for a large shopping spree saves much more than the cost of the fuel to get there.

I am just glad we chose a "non tourist" area

I've been told IKEA in Sevillha is very good, some things almost 100 euros cheaper than Lisbon

I am a carvoeiro resident , and up until recently I loved to walk to the daily indoor market for my produce. Lovely fresh and also nice people. I was shocked when on a recent trip to friends , I had chance to shop in Algoz market. The prices of the same things were at least a third if not half the price as the Carvoeiro market. No wonder not many locals shop here , I for one now go to Lagoa or Algoz. Sorry but I have a family to feed. Now I only buy things that I run out of last minute , sorry locals , but the tourists are going to have to keep you,
