I know this is going to seem odd after the cats, but we have found a black and tan dog near our house today (Monte Carvoeiro, QDP, Vila Nova area) - he is quite big and maybe six months old, very friendly and tame but no collar.

We were out last week and up at Slam Bar in Monte Carvoeiro on Friday night. There was a dog which sounds very similar to the one you have found hanging about there at the end of the night.
As you say he was very friendly but got impression from staff in bar that he was there a lot and possibly a stray. I'm sure he had a collar on though. Maybe they could let you know if it is same dog or if they know anything about him
