Does anyone have any comments about the Pedra Grande development. We're thinking of booking a townhouse here this summer (1st time visitors to Carvoeiro), apart from a couple of photos of the property can't seem to find any other info. Also any recommendations for value/reliable car hire would be v.welcome ....?

Hope you enjoy your first visit to Carvoeiro. I have not stayed on Pedra Grande, but it is situated near to the Rocha Brava complex, it is a long walk from town but if you have a car maybe that isn't important to you. There are a few restaurants nearby - O Farol on Rocha Brava, Rochamar opposite Rocha Brava, Julio's which is the nearest, and Jardim do Farol which is just past the entrance to Rocha Brava. There is also a small supermarket on Rocha Brava.

As for car hire - we usually use Auto Jardim and have never had any problems with them. There are many hire car companies at Faro to choose from and we haven't had a bad experience with any of them - other visitors may have different opinions

Thanks for the restaurant tips Kteee.... We will have a car, they're saying it's 2.5km into town, and I don't mind walking that on a path or 'quiet' road, do you know what that route's like? Are there plenty of taxis around for the evening?

The route is not brilliant to walk - there is no pavement for much of the way and it is very steep and winding in parts, plus it is quite a busy road with buses and coaches as well as cars. It is downhill into the village and uphill back - I have stayed on Rocha Brava many times and have never walked into Carvoeiro although I'm a fairly fit thirtysomething!

There are plenty of taxis in Carvoeiro, there is a rank in the square, or you can call Paulo Lapa (he has an advert on this site) he is very reliable and speaks excellent English.

Of course there are many other good restaurants in the village, the ones I mentioned earlier are the nearest to Pedra Grande.

You can walk to town through Val De Milho and then through ADM, longer but quieter if you want a walk.

We stayed ther twice while having our villa built and could not fault it in anyway, lovely pool area and fairly quiet and close to Rocha Brava for restraunt, mini market and bar, Walk to CVO ok going but would get a taxi back, Have a lovely holiday.
