Hi everybody, I have been earwigging this forum for some time now and expect one of the regulars will be able to help me out.
We recently bought an apartment near CVO and my partner will be moving out there soon, she needs an internet connection in order to continue her work. How do we go about setting this up, we have no phone in the flat, it has to be broadband and must be reliable. Oh, yes , not too expensive.

I just popped into the Portimao PT centre and boght a Broadband Modem....First they check if your area has broadband..Most do.......then in about 10 days they came and connected it and off you go...I think it costs about 35Euro a month.....

Gambrinus posted a good piece on this a while back about the various options.

SAPO is available subject to connection (which MUST be OK in CVO if it works in Hicksville (Algoz)). SAPO Standard at nominal 512kbps costs 34.99/month with a 2GB download limit. I use it all the time for work (remote networking etc) and never get surcharged (If you are into music downloads etc this could be where the limit kicks in).

SAPO Pro costs (I think) 45€/month and is apparently more stable and has a bigger download available although I have found standard to be fine - Keep an eye on the sapo.pt website because often the modem and setup is discounted or even free !!

Also SAPO works great with Skype - free internet phone calls worldwide - another topic already in the forum.

Any doubts - it seems Gambrinus is yer man !!

Del, without a phone you will be stuck up a creek without a paddle for broadband. Even if you take the satelite option, you need a phone line for upstream.

I have been speaking to Vodafone for a viable alternative to the telepac/sapo solutions, but they are still working on a solution.

The Sapo packages are the most adequate for home use, depending on how much you will be using it, you can keep the monthly cost around € 30-40. (You can also configure an online filter that warns you when u get close to your monthly limits).
For higher usage and more reliability I would recomend a Telepac package, I am using the 1Mbit/256 with 40GB per month - €126 plus VAT.
If you will be using internet at night (21:00-09:00) I can recomend you drop by http://www.oni.pt/produtos_residencial. ... tos_OniDuo and have a look at the solutions they have to offer.

General advice when contracting services - get somebody who can speak portuguese to assist you. It will be well worth spending a few quid on a consultant rather than having the hassle because you could not communicate properly.

Agree with all you say....Just want to ad that the people in the Portimao PT shop speak perfect English and are very helpful......

Del, I am sure you can find most answers on this site (various opinions are always good). As for a personal consultant to run around with you for the official tasks goes, there are quite a few english-speaking residents with experience who may be able to help you.
