• fresh milk

I have a simple question..... how come that in portugal and many other southern countries there is little or no fresh (cow)milk available? The only milk available is the pasteurised one which is basically groce......... even with strawberry aroma in it......

Any ideas?

It is possible to get fresh milk from the larger supermarkets. I guess that it is not so popular because of the shelf life in the hot climate..

Which of course I can imagine........ I been to intermarche a few times but did not discover the fresh and cooled milk though.....

You have not been looking in the right places, you can get full cream fresh milk and semi skimmed just like UK. Intermarche it is at the end of the isle with the sausages, bacon, pate etc. Modelo in Silves it is in the chiller section.

Milkman you need ot go back to school. Fresh milk is pasteurised. Steralised milk is the non chilled stuff that tastes s**t on cornflakes but OK in coffee.

I first came to pt in 1972 and stay in a place called Costa da Caparica, just south of Lisboa. The only thing resembling milk available in the shops was this sweet white sticky stuff in a tin……..taught me to drink my coffee black like everyone else. No ‘longlife’ that’s the stuff you see lots of in the shops now………………. Ah those were the days

anyway wouldn,t imagine the algarve has much of a dairy herd....mind you met a bloke the other nite that is just back from working in saudi as a dairy farmer so ye never know...gerry
