was told this week about a portuguese driver in his porsche who was busy overtaking an entire line of cars near boliqueme at about 150 kph
when he slammed right into a truck ...result he went straight under the truck and lost his head...flew right off......police took three days to find it...he also lost his foot which they have never found.

Mind you, the police in Berlin are resorting to exactly this kind of information (including detailed pictures) to stop the drivers from speeding.
They clock them speeding, but instead of a hefty fine they are asked to read an info leaflet. Realistically only 1 out of 10 drivers actually reacted positively to the leaflet they were handed (a leaflet with accident pictures and descriptions). The rest either ignored it completely or just shrugged it off with a "It won't happen to me" - I bet thats exactly what the Porche driver thought at some point during his stupidity...

I don't think that Gambrinus was trying to be morbid, but was actually giving us a wake-up call. We all need these whatever the subject, from time to time don't you think? Certainly the current speeding/drink driving Ads on the TV, make me think.

Ah…..so we’re back to bad driving in Portugal……and whilst I don’t know the nationality of the Porsche driver, I’m convince that showing pictures of headless people [etc] to the Portuguese would do nothing to improve their driving habits. The Portuguese love the danger…. the daredevil nature of the roads. They see driving a competition where every car they overtake - especially on the final straight - is another notch. They are potential matadors where the biggest heroes are dead heroes!!!!

The moral of that story is to "keep your head when others are loosing theirs".

There wouldn't be any reaction in any country. A primary school teacher of mine was killed when her scooter went under the back of a lorry. I must have been upset cos I can still remember it but it hasn't made any difference to the way I drive, i.e. I'm not scared of lorries. The fact that someone was killed somewhere is not relevant, doesn't mean it will ever happen again. If, however, there was something about a Porsche or Seat or whatever that made it more likely that they would end up under a lorry, or would be particularly badly damaged compared to other cars, then that would be relevent and would put people off those cars.
