225 KPH on the new alfa pendular train from faro, tunes to lisbon....approx journey time now two and half hours...great train (it tilts) its a great train and great service...take the train. 20 euros each way first class (comfort)

leaves tunes 7.10 am ....same train returns and leaves lisbon 5.20pm

Faro to lisbon by road is approx 295 kms, and railways are generally straighter than roads. So how come at 225 kph it takes 2.5 hours.

Perhaps it stops at Tunes for an hour ?

Its top speed is 220kms per hour but only on a fairly short stretch around Alcacer do Sal, the rest winds around the hills at about 150km/h. Here are some pics taken on the train:

well the speed counter on the carriage advised me on three occasions we were doing 225 kph
