Re: August holiday in Carvoeiro
just came back from a month in CVO. Place is very quiet with only about 30% of bars and restaurants open. You have to wear masks inside shops bars etc but not if sitting outside. You also need to wear a mask if you go to the toilet. very little traffic and beach is also sparsely populated. It was a bit like November in CVO except it was way over 30 most days. the supermarkets are also only light traffic and very noticeable that Intermarche - which tends to be mostly overseas visitor based, was also very light. I was most impressed that Lagoa council had given all houses 4 free masks.
The airport was very sparse and you do get an automatic temp check as you come out of passport control, most of duty free shops (not drinks area) were closed.
All in all it was great as it was hot and sunny without the crowds.

Re: August holiday in Carvoeiro
We made exactly the same assessment as Widge
It was lovely to have a holiday and make a small contribution to the local economy.
We'd got organised for quarantine on our return (Ocado deliveries and working from home)
Wish we were back again though!

We had one trip last week and are going back next week. We felt safer there than in England. Took calculated risk and relatively happy to quarantine on our return. Not worried about travel insurance but made sure we had EHIC. Restaurants and shops that ee went in were all fine. Signage and discipline all better than UK and a legal requirement rather than just recommended.

On the subject of insurance, take a close look at this one
Read all the small print. It seemed to me that its very cheap and you're covered for Covid-19 and almost nothing else
But it could be of interest.....

Interesting eRichard......I think the only cover we really need is repatriation, but not only when a terminal case ! Most Travel Insurance policies seem to cover this for Covid 19 ( in emergency) but only if FCO approves. On the subject of insurance, take a close look at this one
At the end of the day, may be worth the risk as others have done.

Daily Telegraph reports that ministers may lift travel ban on Portugal at the end of next week. Coincidentally Tui cancelled all flights and holidays to Portugal until 15 August. As UK's largest holiday company, did Grant Shapps give them a tip off ?
Re: August holiday in Carvoeiro
Fingers crossed...we are booked for 31 August so have until 17 Aug to change flights foc with Easyjet....Daily Telegraph reports that ministers may lift travel ban on Portugal at the end of next week.

Fear not Geoff.
We are meant to be flying back to Bristol on 13 August for grandchildren duties. The cost of transferring flight to 17 August to avoid quarantine £32.00 per passenger. The cost of booking a new flight on 17 August £19.00 per passenger !

Re: August holiday in Carvoeiro
Easyjet have cancelled all future flights from Stansted to all but 4 locations and from Southend and Newcastle to all destinations with effect from 1st September.
If you have any booking to or from any of those 3 airports from 1st September you need to check your bookings as I think you will find they have been cancelled.

Hurrah!!!
Update on GOV.UK.
Portugal travel advice
Change made
Portugal is now exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel; from 4am on 22 August, Portugal will be added to the list of countries where self-isolation on return to the UK is not required
