Satellite Television

All,

My wife and I have recently bought an apartment and we would like to be able to recieve sky television channels by the most economic method. The previous owners have left a satellite dish but not the "Digi-box". I am proposing to buy a second hand digi-box via e-bay and request a second "card" from Sky ( as far as they know for our home service).

Perhaps not entirely ethical but potentially cost effective.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has followed this path before us or adopted an alternative strategy.

Regards

Tony Stroud

I brought my 'Digi Box from the UK.....but it wasnt good enough (Very weak reception) ..eventually I had to get a larger dish and a more powerful box......so I suggest you talk to the shop in Carvoeiro who are very helpful...before you buy stuff that might not work well here.....
Now I've probably complicated things for you.....so maybe a more up to date input by somebody is required.

entirely ethical...? it's not entirely legal - I would even go so far as to say it is completely illegal.

I have no idea how much UK residents pay for their satelite TV, but it must be a small fortune considering how may are prepared to illegaly tap this resource when abroad.

A viable alternative is the portuguese cable TV which you can also receive via satelite, that incorporates a selection of english speaking channels in its 44-channel base package for EUR 21 per month.

BBC Prime
BBC World
Sky News
several movie channels with films in english with subtitles
Eurosport
Motors TV
Extreme Sports
Cartoon Network

The permium movie channels also transmit all movies in english with subtitles.
