No you will need a dish as well

- But to be serious yes it will work but the dish that you will need will not be the 'neat little thing' that you have at home but a larger round one because the Algarve is on the edge of the footprint of the bird in the sky. My brother-in-law lives in Cascais and runs his sky account through our address in the UK.
Have a look in 'the (used to be Algarve) news' for suppliers of hardware
Hope that helps

I am no expert on this but I understand that all sky cards are now 'programmed' to the box that they are in - i.e. when you get to Portugal you have to bung you card in the box, phone up Sky, give them serial numbers and such like and then after a few hours it will work. You then need to have the card re-programmed to your box at home when you return to blighty.
I think Sky did this deliberately to stop people taking their cards wherever they go, and I wonder how much they monitor how often you change the box it is meant to be in so that they can take some sort of action to get even more money off you (remember that Sky technically is not allowed in Portugal)
We ended up getting a second sky card - but having analysed what we really watch we ended up with the lowest possible subscription and found we were actually saving money.
Hope this is of some help
