Apologies for such an early mention of the C word. Thinking of coming out in December, over the Christmas period and wondered if it was known yet which bars and restaurants are open in the run up to the festivities and if any restaurants are offering a Christmas Day lunch?

There are lots of restaurants that offer Christmas day lunches and diners, but as for whats open or not you will have to wait and see nearer the day. Its a bit of pot luck.

Not being negative and having lived here for many years, This is not the best time to visit.
For the past two years, owing to financial restraints, etc. there have been no street decorations or any sign it's that time of year. We do get a few Fireworks on New Years Eve, but unfortunately it's nothing like previous years.
However, the Resturants do try very hard to get us in to the spirit!
Personally, if I was investing a lot of money, I.e, flights etc, they always increase at this time, I personally would look at other resorts.

DVBRO is right - you would never think its Christmas in Carvoeiro and it's usually deserted.

The restaurants that are open do make the effort - but they're few and far between.

On the positive side - if you want to get away from the commerciality we have in the UK - Cvo is your answer.

Just out of interest, could anyone let me know a few of the main pubs and restaurants that do stay open year round in Carvoeiro? Not necessarily open Christmas eve and day or that, but ones that don't close for a winter period.

I'm sure Hemingways is open 365 days a year, albeit restricted hours over Christmas and New Year.

It never fails to amaze me how Father Christmaso gets down those tiny chimneys. You'll notice I gave the local translation for Father Christmas, I first discovered I had a natural talent for speaking Portuguese when I played regular golf at the VDM with my mate Owen Hughes I used to say to him,. "good shot O "and nice put O" and he said " do you realise you're speaking Portuguese, and d'you know what I never realised it.

We spent last Christmas in carvoeiro and really enjoyed it. Yes it's quiet but not as quiet as we thought it would be and even though the mornings and nights were cold the beautiful sunshine in the day made it 100% better than the UK. Harry's bar is always open and Ma-Ja's did an amazing Christmas lunch, excellent value and very Christmassy atmosphere. A Gale was only closed for a few days over Christmas and primavera was open most of the time. We certainly had enough places to choose from.

It would be advisable to book, the sooner you do the more chance you are of getting a table.

Nice post!! You know on Christmas we host the family party at home in evening. We also visit the best boozy brunch nyc venue in morning to eat their Christmas special cuisines. It is our favorite place to eat out!!

Might be a little bit too far from Carvoeiro

Bar 6 opposite Wolf at the top end of restaurant hill are doing food all over Christmas, Christmas Day full works, bubble and squeak and all the sport Boxing Day and Party New Years Eve
