I am a regular visitor to the Algarve and thought it was about time I learnt a bit of Portuguese. I have started lessons and very much enjoying it. Any recommendations for good textbooks to help me with my studies? Thanks in advance.

I would thoroughly recommend "Portugal Lingua e Cultura" written by Tom Lathrop & Edwardo M Dias published by Linguatext ISBN 0942566408. You will find it on book sellers' sites. It is approx 510 pages and apart from building your vocab and grammar it has lots of info about Portuguese culture as well. It contains practical exercises both in English & Portuguese. It is not a tourist type book but is an excellent book for anyone that is serious about learning the language.
