at last IKEA is opening on A22 near loule in 2014 -not a moment too soon -we are in carvoeiro on tuesday and are going to Ikea in Seville on thursday to get dining table and chairs-Typical!!! but we need to eat at decent table this zummer -anybody know anyone inthe area that provide an ikea furniture assembly service?

Over the years, I have earned my GCSE, if not A Level, in IKEA assembly......and served my apprenticeship in waiting in the Croydon IKEA Customer services seeking out the elusive "missing bit"!

I have been to Ikea so many times in Wembley(returning mostly) as they either provide too many nuts and bolts in a packet(great) or not enough(not so great) hence the return trips! The restaurants they have in all their branches(not sure about overseas) is reasonable.

Breakfast at Ikea Nottingham is outstanding for the price. Don't know how they do it at under £3; full house all the time I suppose. We have bought several kitchens from Ikea, including one shipped to Portugal, and could well give BW a run for his money on assembly and fitting

It will be a great investment for the Algrave. Many of us use Ikea either by visiting Lisbon or Seville or shipping from UK
It makes commercial sense and gives a boost to the economy. Hated by some but loved by many.

EMM, I was laughing at this as this your usual acidic wit . But I did some Googling on the owner of IKEA and the raw materials IKEA uses and I can see now what you mean.

Some countries when they cut down trees en masse usually ensure that for every tree cut down three are planted as replacements. I have seen it in the Irish Republic where large forests have been decimated and over the years the forests have re-grown. Possible solution but rather long-term.

IKEA is an immensely successful business, and as such will offend someone like you.

I believe that IKEA will be a shot in the arm for the Algarve, providing jobs, reasonable quality modern furniture at an affordable price, and will also raise the bar for some other furniture retailers in the area.

My understanding is that much of IKEAs furniture is sourced from sustainable forests, and they participate in major re-planting programmes.

Some of us try to have a soclal concience about what and where we buy from. I could have said that most of their furniture is crap that falls apart in a short time.
Ikea ( if and when it opens ) I never take anything in the Algarve press at face value will take business away from the many small private run furniture shops and like the UK they will close and jobs will go. Not just in those shops but in the Portuguese furniture manufacturers that supply them.

Also if there is no substantial uplift in the property market with demand for furniture, etc where will the business for this mega store come from.

As I say its a big IF and when, rather like the signs for the new shopping centre at Guia which have been there fading for at least the last 3 years.

If you do not give any thought to where you buy from, Amazon, Starbucks Ikea and the like thats your decision but do not have a go at those of us who do.
Have you been eating too many convenience meals containing drug contaminated horse meat products.

thanks bruce for bringing the discussion back to an intelligent level and to stop criticism of successful companies that provide products and employment to so many-i worked foe a major uk household name diy compa.y and ALL their furniture came from china -well the chinese pay really high rates to their workers dont they!!!

when portuguese furniture is a lot cheaper and better designed then i will buy it.

also take care in the use of the word "crap"- I have slept inan ikea bed for 12 yrs so i wait with bated breath for it to collapse!
