With all the talk of a proposed Mars venture,I still wonder whether man has really ever left this planet.
Can we believe all that was/is fed to us from the media?
I happen to think that the money spent on space exploration would be better spent here on earth,making our environment cleaner safer for us and other creatures that share our world.
But you may think differently?
Funny how the UFO stuff seems to have gone away too
are we alone in this great big universe?should we explore it?

I think its wonderful..exploration of space....of course we want to know 'whats out there' dont we?
Mans inquisitiveness(gawd..a long word for me)..his curiosity...sense of adventure....thirst for knowledge etc...
Climbing Everest...sailing round the globe...exploring the oceans...and now..the ' Final frontiere'...
I saw something late one night..that couldnt be explained ...and Im convinced...we're not alone......

My friend and I saw a UFO in 1984. We noticed a man walking further along the road walking his dog and then he stopped and was looking at something in the sky a few hundred yards ahead. We looked too and saw lights very low and at first it could be a helicopter but the thing was not moving. All of us were just stood there waiting for the thing to move and when it did it was like something out of Close Encounters. A very large triangular object appearing bigger than anything we have ever seen but so silent which was the scary thing. When the man and his dog ran off we decided to as well.
My father saw something similar as well finishing his night shift.
We know what we saw and unless you have seen something 'unidentified' it is very hard to get other people to take you seriously. I think I have encountered a 'road ghost' too - an old man stood in middle of road as if he wanted to be knocked over - fortunately I didn't knock him over but that one even spooked the kids and they think he wasnt 'real'

Hi all, thanks for the welcome back, apart for the posting that was deleted.Ellie mon ami, I'm a scepeptic,(nor septic, sorry,had a few largers)I just like to put a different slant on things, just like the fortunate folk have the privilage to have a glimps of UFOs, I have not, it just seems that the origins of our species seems to be neatly wrapt up in Darwins Theories, and that some experts of equal note forward a theory that we come from aliens who visted and began our humanity(now there's a contridiction in terms). I think there is quite enough damage being done to our wonderful planet that needs to be addressed without spreading our filth and barbaric ways to other worlds, what will they become, somewhere to ship our old cars or toxic waste. I for one am not interested in other worlds, just my own. How much can we believe? take the past week, have we not seen the other side of the coin regarding barbarity. If I see a UFO I will jump for joy, before trying to tell them to turn rund and go away, we can't be taught any thing unless it's how to improve ourdestructive powers, and I'm sure we can't teach them anything. Please can't we fight and spend all that money on the millions of HIV sufferers in africa, and perhaps do something about the under aged kids working in the Portugese shoe factories. Please lets get our aims and priorities right. If us millions can turn our anger and frustration on the few who ignor the inhumanity that is fact, then I think we will earn the right to inhabit other worlds. Got to go need a drink. Can you imagine someone reading this post in the year 2204 Yes, they certainly would roll their eyes and wonder how archaic our thinking was in the year 2004.

Sorry guys, but I was living in Roswell New Mexico, just South of Area 51, at the time, and Neil and "Buzz" landed in my back yard (back yards are Really Big in New Mexico).

They stayed awhile, put up a flag, took some pictures, used my Loo a few times, and left on a piller(sp) of fire.

Kinda Biblical in a way....and in New Mexico, you tend to read the bible and talk to God alot....(no newspapers to read and no one much else talk to....).

BTW, did Nixon win the election?

Right with you Tricky......(wish I could have read "Guest's" post for myself).

Your viewpoint is understandable eco/spider but it is also a little head-in-the-sand and denies one of civilsed man's greatest attirbutes - a quest for knowledge. Space travel and exploration has not just been about footprints on the moon. If it had not been for the parallel drive for more powerful computers to achieve space exploration we would not have the internet to spread the eco-word. Without satellite telecoms we would never have known of the African AIDS crisis. Satellite atmospheric scanning identified and defined the polar holes in the ozone layer, and helps to try and predict major catastrophies like earthquakes and hurricanes. That most eco friendly device the solar panel would not be at its present level of minimum size, easy availability and cheapness if the technology had not been rapidly progressed for use on space craft. Light alloys first proven to be producable under zero-G conditions in space are being produced on terra-firma for use in light-weight low energy/low emission motors. Some of the future cures for the world's worst diseases may well result from experiments carried out in the gravity and bacteria free environments of the ISS. Sorry about the ramble - phew! I need a cold beer!

Oh - re. UFOs and extra terrestrials, I am a little sceptical. Did you ever notice that reports of alien encounters up to the 1950s were always with Martians or Venusians, yet when these planets were proved to be devoid of any possible intellligent life encounters were all became with people from Alpha Centauri or other distant stars?

I do agree with you Rampage..well mostly...though I also empathise with Spider and understand his real concerns for this earth of ours.
But theres a lot of useful work being carried out 'Up there'....quite recently too in the space station(carrying Brit astronaut)..research into new cancer cures..results are quicker in weightless conditions..
and who knows....maybe a cure for aids could be in the offing..in the not so distant future
UFOs ?....what did that guy (was it Al Bean?) mean.when..on passing round the dark side of the moon..when he said "Father Christmas does exist!"
