For the many forum members who ask what CVO is like in Winter (well nearly)
these are my views on the past six days we have spent in CVO.

Weather, lovely for three of the days, rainy on one with dramatic thunderstorm one morning but brightened up in the afternoon.
Temps around 18 up to 22. Warm enough to spend on the beach on two days and people were swimming in the sea when it was calm.

Restaurants/Bars A Lot closed or about to and many opening Thurs/Fri/Sat only.. Ele and Ela for example.
Bars in the square closed at night. Metabixo closed at night and some days. Oasis/Hemingways/Harrys' Bar open.
Sullys closed.

Happy's open till mid December (full of golfers each night) A Gale/Jota Lita open. Casa do bife/Carvoeiro Bar/Maximes open. Tapas bar/Gusto open Bar Telvex open for a few more weeks.

The restaurants were very quiet with no-one in them some evenings. Villa Medici usually had a few tables taken (tip,order a glass of house wine for 4 euros - and get at least half a bottle worth)

I think many more will close in the next few weeks, with some possibly re-opening briefly for Christmas.

Monte Carvoeiro, Cocktail Garden Closed , Elliots/Tiffany's etc all still open.

Most evenings there was almost no-one about and several times we walked into town and never met a soul or saw a car.

Saying that, it is a lovely time to visit the area, its quiet and peaceful and there are still lots of things to do. Walks, nice restaurants still open, and time to get to know people again. (and have the beach to yourself)

I don't know if Hemingways ever closes.

Does it get very "cool", late afternoon, early evening ? Worth a cardigan for the ladies, jumper/sweater for the chaps ?

The locals are now in jeans, jumpers and coats and well wrapped up on the colder days! However, the holidaymakers are still seen around the village in shorts and even the odd person with socks and sandals I would definitely recommend a jumper etc for the late afternoons and evenings because when the sun goes down it does tend to feel a bit chilly.

Yes Jan I agree, During the day it was shorts and t-shirt with a cardi in case the sun went in, but in the evenings Jeans and Jackets were our usual attire.
We did have two days on the beach in swimsuits though (well I did, Husband opted for a more dignified outfit)

Swimming in November! Who could ask for better? We will be there in December mightn't swim but will definitely be going for long walks along the cliffs. Looking forward to it

Should imagine swimming in the sea during November is like swimming in the sea during August - bloody freezing!

I am coming to Carvoeiro on the 29th Nov for 4 days with a party of 8. It's a bit of a celebration for one of the couples silver wedding anniversary and one of the men's 50th!

Can someone give me an idea of which restaurants will be open in the evenings for our stay, and the best bars to go for a few(and a few more) drinks!!

Have been to Carvoeiro before, so have been to a few of the restaurants and reasonably familiar with the area.

We were also thinking about a boat trip if the weather is ok. Do trips run from the beach at this time of year?

I don't think the boats will be out, in fact they weren't over October half term. Your best bet might be to try from Portimao.

Tricky's original post gave you some idea of what restaurants/bars were open. The restaurants tend to choose their own times of opening and closing for holidays at this time of year as the village is obviously a lot quieter at the moment. We are still open from Thursday to Sunday inclusive both lunch and dinner. With regards to bars, Round Up closed last weekend, Brady's is already closed but Mungo's, Hemmingways, Talvez, Rascals, Irish Times, Sully's, Black Stove and the Jailhouse are all still open as far as I know. I am sure there will be enough restaurants/bars open for you and your party to enjoy your time in Carvoeiro. Have a great stay.

If its a calm, sunny day it might be worth going to Benegil Beach, as last week on a nice day, one of the boatmen took a party around the caves.

Just had a text from son-in-law, family and friends spent day at beach with the most of the adults swimming in the sea!! Swimming in the sea in Novemeber a first for 2 of them! 10 days and counting until my turn..........hopefully!!

Today sea calm and sunny, saw one of the boats that go up the river to Silves from Portimao, looked lovely, calm and relaxing. Take each day as it comes some perfect for a trip others wild. This month so far typical winter 2 or 3 days wet 2 or 3 lovely bright and sunny, make the most of the good days. Yesterday we walked the beach at Salgados and back along the board walk through the dunes , fantastic. Alvor is another area good for days out when it it bright even if cool.
