Porsche experience at the Autodrome

Used my voucher from last years birthday to take advantage of the above. One lap of the circuit as a passenger in a Porsche Carrera S from the Racing School followed by lap as the driver. I am sure the instructor made allowance for my age and the fact that he wanted to avoid creating an ill passenger but even so the first lap was a bit nervewracking on a couple of bends. My driven lap was probably one of the slowest on record but the car was amazing to drive and that comes from someone who has never been a fan of Porsches. Phenominal power and tremendous grip accompanied by a superb engine note. Some of the bends are invisible as you approach them because the exit is at a lower level and this is challenging but the instructor tells you what line to take. Overall a very enjoyable experience and you get a video of you and the instructor in the cabin for both of the laps. The more apprehensive looking one of the two was generally me.

A good experience, but not one you would undertake in your own car ?

That sounds like just the sort of thing I'd like, and I'm certain my eldest son would like as well. I think he once fancied himself as an F1 driver, but the nearest he got was a Formula Ford experience day.

Many years back my son-in-law took me for a ride in his Ferrari. His usual run was to Morrisons and back (yeah, I know, he's a boring fart!) but to show off his prize possession he took me onto the A1 near Newark, where he lives.

I have no idea what speed he reached . . . but he reached it FAST! The acceleration threw me back into my seat where I remained for the duration, eyes closed wishing it all to be over! I eventually got out and vowed never again would I want drive or be driven as fast again. In future, any Ferrari trips would be to Morrisons and back . . . at a nice 30mph. :P

It was not PDK. It had a normal floor shift. Not being a Porsche fan I am not sure about the model. My son took photos and I will see if I can put one up so you can see,

the 991 is the latest version released 8 months ago. It is 11 seconds per lap quicker than the old 997 version around the Nurbugring. and laps quicker than the Turbo S which is 4wd and 530 bhp. PDK with sports chrono has launch control, which is mind blowing!
