There is a report on Algarve daily News that from the start of next year ALL transactions must receive an official tax receipt.
This is being done in an effort to reduce the " black " economy and increase the tax take.
As a few days ago we received a hand written receipt with no names or details from a well known bar I wonder just how this will be received or policed.

If this does goe ahead I am sure we will hear of even more random checks on bars and restaurants to ensure that they are following the rules.

This won't have the effect of increasing any receivable tax. In fact the opposite as it could well force a number of businesses to close. it means that tax will be paid sometimes twice. I have a small bookshop, if this goes ahead I will be paying tax on tax. Not good.
