Visit Algarve twice a year for past 20 year
And these are my observations;
1. Airport is a shambles.
I was at the airport last oct when damaged by storm
6 months later and its 10 times worse. What is the point
In people going round and round just to get out of this
Warehouse. It was quiet when i arrived it will be chaotic
In the summer.
2. Car hire
See previous topic.
3. Golf Courses
Need to be more competitive but with vat increase
This will not happen.lookout for twilight offers
4. Food & beverages
Good as ever but the increase in VAT will hurt
5.Tolls on A22
What a joke ?
Maybe the car rental companies should use
The same procedure and that way i would be home when i pay
The 125 will turn into a battlefield in the summer
As drivers avoid the tolls.
Your neighbours the Spanish are also avoiding the Algarve.
6. Weather
Rubbish but whats the saying when it rains it pours
Everything else is fu**** up so why not this
7. People
As good as always, reminds me of the Irish.
Recommendations.
Land the planes on the A22
Warning
You never get a second chance to give a first impression
From my recent visit
Airport ????
Car rental ????
Tolls A22 ???
Only hope is the weather will improve
Come on the Algarve, Sort this Mess out

We can now add " Pissed of Paddies " to whinging poms and moaning Brits.
Somehow I get the impression that even if everything that he complained about had been OK he still would have had a miserable holiday.

Only for the pissed off Paddies and moaning Brits there would not be too many visitors in the Algarve. The Spanish have deserted ... have a look around.
These are the people that spend the euros which is the only way the Algarve will survive.
Don't forget that the moaning Paddies (Taxpayers) practically own most of the golf courses in the Algarve which generates most if its income.
Macasa - I am sure that Dublin Airport was no way like Faro and if you drive you can pay your toll charges immediately. Very petty respons.
I had a great time as always, spent plenty of euros and looking forward already to my next visit.
All I have said is what I have observed during my recent visit and what the locals are saying, by locals I mean the Portugese, try it sometime and you might learn something....
By the way the Sun does not always shine , even in the Algarve

The weather has been a bit crap recently after a marvellous winter and while this is certainly not going to give visitors a warm glow there is nothing anyone can do about it. Martin's other points are fair comment and I don't see why he gets such negative responses.

Totally agree Steve, Martin is entitled to his opinion and I get a little tired of EMM and his pathetic snide remarks about us Brits, now he is bringing the Irish into it.

" Your Pissed of Paddies " no longer own the Algarve golf courses. they went bust big time. the Irish government owned banks and by default the ECB ( and its UK support ) now own them. !!!

Just got back myself and Martin's points are very true. Those who criticise him are just sticking their heads in the sand
All bar and restaurant owners moaned about how quiet it is and the prospects are not good.
Of course we enjoyed ourselves as always, even despite the nasty bug going around, but you have to worry about the future. The airport certainly needs sorting out before the summer comes.
Further west on the 125 we found 2 half built new roundabouts where the constructors have walked away due to non payment by the local Camara leaving dangerous junctions. Also the old bridge into Lagos is closed after resurfacing was attempted with a 20 ton truck on a 10 ton max bridge!!!! It is feared that the bridge will not be repaired for years due to the lack of finance
The whinging is from everyone including the Portuguese so don't try lumping it on just the Brits or the Paddies. The economic situation is dire - there is no point in trying to deny it
....... but I still love the place
