The Resident had an article last year about installing parking meters on Rua do Barranco but nothing has since happened there so maybe it is just another plan that may come to nothing (fingers crossed).

its just that the junta is blocking off & painting the parking bays, plus a local has told me its going to be metered parking very shortly and that some local business are going mental about it , I do hope this is not going to happen.

Why are they going mental. It will mean people might be able to park and shop.

But it might drive a lot of people out to places like Aqua where they can park for free?

Come on Octopus be realistic there is no comparison between a large shopping centre and Carvoeiro .
Parking charges have been applied in Lagos for a couple of years and it does not seem to have had any effect , you still have to look for a parking space.
Many of the cars parked in carvoeiro for long periods seem to belong to locals /workers rather than visitors but I do not see a need other than revenue raising as the changes to the road layout and GNR vigilence has considerably improved the situation over that of a few years ago.

Okay well compare it to any one of the other places you can go to a beach, bar or restaurant without paying to park. I think its largely the free/easy parking at out of town places that has absolutely destroyed the high streets back in the UK.
Carvoeiro is a pain the ass to park in, personally i'd be all for paying and there being more spaces - but it looks pretty horrible from a business owners perspective surely?

There was talk about building an additional car park, but it never happened. They used a vacant lot up by A Rede 2 years ago, but that is now closed off, and up for sale.
The businesses on the hill would love better car parking, but the Camra only did half the job by blocking off alot of parking, putting all those steel bollards in ....but then stopped before completing the 2nd half of the project.....the alternative parking area.

To be fair they did add a good few parking spaces up by Monte Dourado, but again its a job half done. The parking is fine, the one way is one way most of the time , just have to be careful when you go around the corner at A Velha in case somebody is coming down the hill the wrong way - it happens. But the problem is they didn't make the road which exits on the 'out' road a one way down. One shockingly bad corner on it very likely to cause an accident someday (hope it's not me). The road down 'market hill' is fine for 9 months of the year but when traffic parks on it during the summer it leaves it too narrow for 2 way traffic. The large field beside Hotel Mirachoro would hold a good few cars.

Is that the one that is up for sale ?
We saw a few people with files and folders looking at it a couple of weeks ago.
