To cut a long story short we are taking our 10 year old son to disney in Florida in June and he cant swim and we would love to take him swimming with the dolphins while we are on holiday.

So we are looking for some good swimming centres to take him too. We live in Silves but don't like the swimming facilities at the council pool.

Can someone give us some suggestions/recommendations of places that you regularly use that is in a 25 minute drive of Silves.

We wouldn't mind using a private facility such as a golf club pool as long as kids are allowed in the pool.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is that at Monte Santo? That's where my grandkids had lessons. The indoor pool is a decent size for a hotel complex.

I'm curious... whats wrong with the Silves pool? (I live there, but haven't used it). Thanks

Lagoa pool is ok. Bit of a palaver getting a ticket but the pool is in good shape. You have to wear a cap and poolside footwear, I just have a pair of flipflops.

Presumably a bathing costume is also required ?

They don't mention it but I've never noticed anyone not wearing one. That would have made my prescription goggles steam up!

Yes we are going to monte santo and really looking forward to it.

It turns out that my beauty therapists ex flat mate does the lessons - just shows what a small world we live in!!!

The reason I didn't take to silves is because they fined us for staying in the pool too long and never told us before hand that this would happen. We were only in the water for 95 minutes and that included getting changed/washing my hair etc. And I was fined more for the extra 5 minutes than the original ticket and we found the staff rather rude.

Plus I don't take to having to wear a cap and at the public ones you have to have everything and I am not allowed to wear my glasses and as a partially sighted person is bad news.

I have to ask - can you get prescription goggles in the algarve as I could really do with some and a recommendation would be great.

If you have problems locally I can get them ex-UK - delivery 2 -3 weeks cost €40 - 60 depending on prescription.

That sounds good - I didn't know it was that cheap to get them and will certainly look into it.

I get mine here http://www.activeaqua.com/product.php/8 ... on_goggles as they are one of the few suppliers who do +4 dioptre lenses. Ther are very comfortable and have an adjustable nose bridge.

Just as a note: The swimming lessons at the Lagoa pool are awesome; very intense and an excellent value.
