What's going on in The Square - I can hear sirens and the INEM (air ambulance) Helicopter has been hovering for several minutes

There is a big cycle race this afternoon. Several roads are blocked off to traffic and I have been unable to get out of my cul de sac. When I asked one of the GNR officers stationed at the junctions he said that it the road would probably be open again after about 16.00. I guess what you hear is associated with the race.

It is a stage of the Tour de Algarve bike race, it started at the Fatacil, Lagoa through Benagil then Carvoeiro on to Ferragudo then finishes Portimao old bridge. an English rider, Bradley Wiggins, has the fastest time so far.

Thank you all.
There was a cycle race that went past the Portimao Retail Park at around 4.00pm on Thursday as well - must be another 'leg' of it

Now we know why there was no carnival parade, would have been very messy if you saw the speed those bikes were coming down restaurant hill

Not quite - but it crossed my mind that something sinister might have happened at the Carnaval Parade - thankfully it was nothing more than a bike race
