Hello there

we have a first time 'winter' visit to Carvoeiro planned for January (been in the summer / autumn before). Are the Carvoeiro restaurants and bars open in January? what are the best places to visit? best places to eat? Any advise greatly appreciated :-)

p.s. our favourite restaurant was 'Restaurante Maxime'. Does anyone know if they are open in January?

I was out last January and Happy's had definitely reopened, can't recall Maximes (they were open in December when Happy was closed) The Indian on restaurant hill was also open (as was the Chinese further up - but not recommended). Weather was good, great for walking.

Maximes is, from recollection, shut during January. Quite a few are, to be honest, and you will not have a wide choice of restaurants. Most of them re open in February.

Many stay open for December, then close for a month before starting the new year.

thank you!

shame about Maxime's :-( but good to hear the Indian is open, we liked the food, loved the view!mind you that was the one up the cliff...
Well, I am sure we will find enough to do / eat.

A further question, any idea how easy it is and how much it costs for a cab in to / from Ferragudo?

I was in CVO last January and can tell you the following were open. California, Happys, Casa do Bife, Gale, A Galeria and O Tasco. Don't know about Maximes.
Out of 14 days, we had 11 sunny or bright days and the last 4 were cloudy or rainy.

Thanks for the advice.

Can't wait to get away from this freezing weather!

ps...Maxime's emailed back, they are open until 8 January. Then closed until 11 February.
