On radio 5 live last night I was listening to them discussing the great H.G.Wells classic ......and the forthcoming Steven Spielburg's new film adaptation ..which Im sure will be good (just hope he keeps it close to the original story!..Tom Cruise is said to be starring)
Then I got to thinking of 'men&women'( and why not?) ..how its said that... Women are from Venus and ....men are from Mars. Thinking of those planets (or worlds) ...Mars the fiery warlike image..Venus the goddess of love..romantic image.
But these days..are the images becoming reverse?
Women more forthright, drinking pints, tattoes,good challenging careers.etc.
Whilst men will often stay at home..look after the kiddies, cook,shop etc.
My daughters marrying a young fella (builder by trade) who does all the cooking(yes) . Will do washing/wash-up etc.
And from what Ive seen /witnessed on here..its often the men who come across as the romantics and can be really gentle & even poetical(see Diggers words about trees)
Men from Venus..Women from Mars?

All true, thanks to the rise and dominance of feminism. It has left the male population in disarray if you ask me, in general, we dont know what we should be like, or our definate roles anymore, as you said it has all been turned around. Maybe we should start filling the void of the old female role-but then I think that most men still feel it isnt "right", and we should be the dominant sex, protecting "our" women. But with their independence etc. It seems that this stereotypical role isnt needed to be filled by men, women have that covered! Maybe we need a Maleist movement to help us find ourselves!

My post grad son expresses the same feelings as youself. Doesn't quite know where 'he stands with the young women of today..in fact says he finds it all a bit scary.He is attracted to 'feminine' women(as he puts it)...and wants to be the protective male but is put off by their independent and often the 'we can manage without you' attitude so often displayed.
Although Im a mature woman(still in my prime I think/hope!)..I love/like the fact that a man would be protective towards me/nice manners etc..brings out my femininty..and his masculinity.
Vivre le difference I say.....and if he cooks as well..sigh....heaven
