Taxis

I understood that even if you called a taxi to your villa they don't start the meter until you get in, then the initial charge (about 3.25 I think) covers the first 500 metres or so. We know that on the way from Gramacho to town the meter will start moving by the time we get to the L'orange. However some taxis 'play the system' and start the meter before they get to us - it still shows 3.25 when we get in but then starts ticking up almost before we leave the complex.
We have an easy system for this. The fare should be about 7 euros. If they play it straight I give them 9 euros. If they have cheated the fare will be about 8.80. I still give them 9. Makes no odds to me but I bet they make a few extra from unwitting tourists.
