we heard a helicopter last night, for about 2 hours, the sound seemed to be coming from the lighthouse area behind Rocha Brava, it was hovering around between about 8pm & 10pm, and it's just come back again this morning; anybodyelse hear it? or have an idea what's going on?

Regrettably, they are looking for a fisherman who was seen falling off the cliffs infront of Clube Atlantico at about 5pm yesterday.

Oh no, that is terrible, I have always wondered if there are any accidents, they seem to perch right on the most dangerous parts of the cliff.
They are still there so presumably they haven't found him yet.

oh dear, we were worried that that might be what was going on; it's still searching, my wife drove back that way from the school run, the helicopter was at Benagil

I am not surprised this has happened. Although I haven't seen fisherman at this location, I have seen several at Cape St. Vincent precariously perched on tiny shelves with a plummeting drop below them. It made me dizzy just looking at them, and I am very good with heights having spent four years working at Lincoln Cathedral in my teens.
It is very sad and my heart goes out to the family, for whom he was probably fishing.

Ominous - the helicopter has stopped now (11.45), no noise at all, wonder if they found him?

i always try to get somme fishing in when in Carvoeiro and have looked at the popular places , I stick to my usual spot 2mtrs above the sea.
Fishing may not be as good but its a lot safer, but then I am not fishing for the pot or income only for fun.

We have just returned from Rocha Brava and also heard the helicopter when we left on Saturday 22nd
they stil hadn`t found the fisherman he was a man of 65 years, how terribly sad it is I just wish they
wouldn`t fish from the high cliffs.

A few years ago one of the papers published the numbers of fisherman lost that year after falling off or being swept from the cliffs. Apparently there are quite a few each year & yet they still perch themselves in the most precarious positions. I suppose they've had their favourite spots since boyhood & forget that they're not so agile or their balance isn't as good as they've got on in years

.
It was stormy here in the sticks yesterday.
