Everybody has their own idea of which is the cheapest supermarket. This link http://www.algarveresident.com/story.asp?ID=7699 shows an article where market research gives you the answer. Buying 'well defined products and brands' and Continente comes out top. Buy the cheapest available without worrying about brands and Plus supermarkets (I think these are now Pingo Doce) are best. For the second year running Sipel supermarket in Albufeira has won the honour of being the most expensive supermarket in Portugal.

I'd agree the Pingo Doce in Lagoa is probably the cheapest but it doesn't always have the best selection.

Continente is really good value & I have found that many of its own brand products are really good & usually considerably cheaper than brand names. I also have about 85 euros on my Continente card at the moment, it all helps, 'specially with Crimble coming up. :D

Agree most of our purchases are own brands from Comtinente, Pinge Doce or Pau a sucar. why pay the extra for " imported " brands when the locla generic will do just as well.
Have not got quite as much on our card.

Remember the 5c ltr fuel discount you can get shopping at Continente or Modelo.
