I have just heard (fingers crossed) that Portugal intend to allow hard working eurocrats to retire there on tax free pensions. Maybe Ellie has been right all along and there is a God . The West is Best.

UK Civil Service and military pensions are currently not taxed in Portugal but unfortunately they are taxed at source in the UK and there is no way of avoiding this. Providing I could afford it I would always choose the East.
