A 30 metere high communications mast has been erected in an environmentally protected area, next to tennis courts beside the Tivoli Almansor and directly across the road from local residents living there. Please check the Algarve Resident news and sign the petition to take this ugly mast down - http://www.ecoalert.tk

That was probably the one that was blocked in Areias dos Moinhos last(?) year.
I don't get the point of erecting a mast at the lowest point of the area though... I mean, it is literally at the bottom of a valley....

It's for short waves.

They erected that pretty quickly, I'll bet if the residents look into the legality of the project they'll find enough loopholes to drive a bus through. :|

I have just signed the petition, and so far there are only 42 names on the list. I would urge anyone to help here and sign up, otherwise there will be free licence to do anything in our community, irrespective of who it effects.

Is the mast in the grounds of the old pottery shop which is now inhabited by Elite Rentals??
I am surprised if this is the case as they are letting lots of property in the area and would be aware of the impact on future property prices and rentals - does anyone know

I couldn't help noticing this monstrosity whilst walking past en-route to the Mona Lisa. I was amazed that this could have had formal permission to have been erected. I have added my name to the petition and would urge others to do so. Imagine what the home owners in the vicinity think!

Is there anymore news on this, seeing as almost everyone is saying that it is illegal?

It is my understanding is that the owner of the site where the new mast is, gave permission for it to be erected, for a consideration of course!

I was at the Elite office the other day, and to be fair, didnt think it that much of an eyesore....its effectively in a builders yard.

Do we get a wee bit precious at times?....These things need to go somewhere.....and a builders yard seems alot less offensive than most other possible locations.

Hi

Seems strange that a business that relies on goodwill would allow an eyesore to be erected on their property. If it is upsetting owners who are clients maybe you should ask the vuilla management company to have it removed and if they do not simply take your business elswhere. The yard/propert is a mess so you have to question their standards in any event.

No wrong!!

Elite are tenants of the builder who owns the yard.
They had absolutely no say in the decision made to erect the mast.

Well after 2 years, we watched it's removal on Monday this week, but no mention of the removal anywhere, does anybody know anything?
I wonder whether we have seen the last of it or it is destined to appear elsewhere. I hope not for everybodys sake.
