Hi,
going to Praia Da Marinha area soon and wondering if any large supermarkets nearby and closing times on a Saturday (to hopefully get a bit of sun before stocking up on the vitals). Also, does anyone know if these "holiday cash cards" are widely accepted in cafes/restaurants? Never used them but would. Cheers

Nearest for you is probably Pingo Doce at lagoa just on the CVO rd, or Intermarche half way between lagoa and CVO (more expensive but bigger) Cant help with the hol cash cards - never used them

If you mean the pre-filled debit cards, we have a Post Office one and that works just like any Visa card.

Thanks for the update. Will probably use the Pingo Doce as appears nearer. It was the pre-filled debit card I was meaning. The one I was looking at is Master Card (through the Money shop) so I'll probably just get one now. Didn't want to load my money onto one if nowhere accepted it. Cheers.

Hi Laurac,
Have you considered getting one of the euro debit cards like the Fairfx one? You pre-load it before going abroad, then you can either use it to pay in shops just like a normal debit card or you can withdraw cash at an ATM (for only a 1.50 euro charge with the Fairfx euro card). I got one before our Whitsun holiday this year and had no problem withdrawing cash. I also topped up last night and got 1.20 euros / £.
