Steamboat would be my top choice. It is a bit difficult to get to being farther away from Denver, but once you are there,it is perfect for th entire family. Doesn't have the glitz of Aspen or Vail but has wonderful skiing and atmosphere. Breckenridge is also a good option but at only 85 miles or so from Denver, it can get a bit crowded. I liked it though. Keystone, Beaver Creek and Keystone are also good.

For Value Breckenridge, for skiing Vail, Steamboat is OK but the extra travel time can be a pain.
BUT where ver you go Skiing in the US is not cheap. For a family group look for chalet booking.
