My Portuguese friend used the word 'Pascoa' to me once and I was puzzled and I said 'what is that?'
She replied 'You know, when God died'

Unfortunately Easter is now just seen as a time for chocolate eggs.....but those of us who are Christians remember Good Friday as a sad time when Jesus was crucified....
but then rejoycing on Easter Sunday..when Jesus rose from the dead..oh happy day

Because Bruce...Christmas is supposed to be about Christ's birth (Christ mas)....and Christ was crucified on Good Friday (can't think why they'd call it 'Good'?) but then joyfully rose fron the dead 3 days later....

D'you know I had to teach my youngest son Jamie about Easter......
he came home from school at Easter, giving me a lovey card with bunnies on it that he'd made. I said to him 'Don't you know what Easters really about?'...he said 'No'.
So I sat him down and told him. He was a serious child and took it all in. When he was Christened he was very serious about it (he was 4 at the time).......
I believe God has taken care of him and thats why he had his profound experience of God....a very powerful experience of the Almighty, which changed his life.

Unfortunately Easter is a different day each year - unlike christmas day (which of course is actually based on an ancient pagan festival day) - so how can it be a significant day each year ?

It's simply the First Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21 (the first day of Spring). Not much more traditional than tying things into Lunar dates?

Thanks for the explanation - but I cant see why its not something like 2nd friday in April. At least we would have a constant date instead of the usual - when's easter this year? the schools could plan their holidays better etc etc

It would be - however the Church needed to get those pesky pagans to convert, so they arranged Christian festivals around the same time as the pagan ones so it would make it easier for them to assimilate to christianity. If they didn't, then it was the usual remedy by the church - kill 'em all! A practise used by christians and non-christians throughout history.
