We returned from our recent visit to Carvoeiro last Monday I think I can honestly say that the
weather was the worst I have known it in the 26 years we have been visiting the Algarve, it
did begin to improve during our last week and on the last 2 days we had lovely sunshine :D :D
One big disappointment was to find Ma Ja`s closed it was opening 2 days after we left, sorry we
missed seeing you Jan and Mark but we shall be back at the end of August and hope that you have
a good season.

Gary my dear,

Do you not realise by now that we are a "classy joint" :?: :D

Mushy peas - good god no - its garden peas we sell with your chish and fips :D You will be wanting us to serve you spam fritters with your chish next

However, as we aim to please and our guests are always right - if you bring a can, I will get Mark to cook them for you

Gary,

Your table for two has been booked and your own gravy boat will not be a problem :D Will you be wanting your mushy peas with the Sunday roast as well or will you be wanting your chish and fips :?: :?: Either way I am sure it will be fine :D

I will send the chef out to buy a tin-opener and then he will be up for the task I am sure

Look forward to seeing you both
Lots of love

Jan and Mark next time we are over we will bring you a packet of dried peas so that you can make your own mushy peas and consign the tin opener to the bin. :D

I have not eaten at Ma-Ja's and what i am about to say is no slight against them, I am sure they serve fantastic food, I just don't understand why if you go to a country that has such versatile and varied food why on earth you would want to eat the kind of food you have at home!

We eat in many types of restaurant in and around the area and always try and go for the more local style food. My worse nightmare would be to search out 'fish and chips with mushy peas' unless it is a local caught fish served pan fried with chips the way it is done in many restaurants in the Algarve.

It is like eating a full English breakfast...... why???? when you can have fresh fruit straight from the tree, local bread and local honey/jams.

Which ever country I am in I always eat as 'local' as is possible, you can get English grub back at home, why go all the way to somewhere different only to search out the same food you eat at home.... I just don't understand it.

OK, sorry, rant over.

I used to eat local bread, honey/jam in the UK, what's so different about that?
I've just got back from England after a 5 day break, did I spend my whole time there eating english breakfast, roast dinners & yorkshire pudding, steak & kidney pie, steamed puddings & custard. No. I ate Indian, Italian, French in the evenings, I had yoghurt & fruit for breakfast (as usual), for lunch one day I went to the Loch Fyne restaurant in Guildford & had 'robalo' (seabass), delicious, a taste of home, Portugal that is. The point is wherever you are why on earth limit your self to one type of cuisine? In all the years we came to the Algarve on holiday we never limited ourselves solely to Portuguese cuisine. If people fancy a bacon sarni' or spaghetti bolognese, have it!
We had lunch at Praia do Pescadores in Albufeira yesterday (I had paella, not very Portuguese I'm afraid) & there was a large Portuguese family on the next table, two of their young children had double fried eggs & chips for their lunch covered in ketchup. :D
