Good grief, from Carvoeiro to Stockton on Tees, I know which one I'd prefer to be in! I'm sitting working in Stockton at the moment, born here but now live in North Yorkshire, thank goodness. I don't think they'll find everything that they want in Stockton on Tees unless they are into drugs, prostitution, unemployment, semi-dereliction and much more that a once excellent market town now has to offer. Nobody even tries to sell The Big Issue here because it's such a poor town. My work colleagues who aren't from Stockton go into the town some lunchtimes and quip that they are going to 'count the people who have any teeth'. Bet they get a high score again today........ All the same I do wish the returnees good luck in the home of the railways and the match.

I dont know what to say , other than we have found this area beautiful , especially now the season is changing , all the snow drops popping the heads through the snow.
I was told after we decided to move here that it was a scary drug infested area , but having lived in the east end of London it is a paradise.

As an ex met pol , I can also tell you that the largest bag of what was possibly cocaine ( i didnt test it just informed the police ) , I had seen was not in the east end of London but in a derelict windmill in Portugal , near where we lived inland ( and no I am not giving the exact location ! ). Surrounded by all the drug equipement....one hasty retreat.

Like everywhere even the lovely Carvoeiro has its problems but on the whole most people dont come in contact with them when they are on holiday. And I would still recommend it as a place to live if you have a good income .

Unfortunately as former golf clients of mine have just pointed out to me and of my own personal experience , prices are very high. They are going to Turkey this year for the first time as the whole golf package and cost of eating out is cheaper.

My weekly shop here costs me approx 35 pounds including meat etc, In Portugal the same things came to over 60 euros a week and thats not even the exchange rate.

Yes maybe this area has its problems but we are happy here , my son is doing well at school and has made loads of friends already. The amenities here are great , under 25 pounds a month to use the gym ,pool and all classes ( one price for everything ) , and discounts for unemployed , students and oap , free computer use in the library , miles of beautiful walks , amazing historical buildings and friendly people.

Maybe its because I am a estrangeiro to Stockton , Durham and Darlington that its all new and wonderful , a bit like Carvoeiro was to us 8 years ago , at the moment it fills mine and my sons needs and a few wants , thats all I ask for.

Thanks Bruce, It is all going well. I am going back to college in September to retrain. Just filled out my C.V ( blimey that was a chore ! ), looking for work, and yes there are still jobs out there.
Made a few new friends , missing my Carvoeiro friends though , and weird that I will walk into a bar in CVO and have a chat and a coke ( thats cola not the other stuff ), but I have become all old fashioned and gone back to my old ways here ! I wont go in unless someone is with me , well I am an outsider , not that anyone here has made myself or Billy feel like that.
I am hoping to get to CVO in the summer , depending on work and holidays etc.
