can anyone inform me of the best train station to use for our return to faro from carvoiero sat 17th oct , spending last 3 nights in faro, i understand some stations are quite remote and i will need to purchase ticketson the day.

For direct trains go to Tunes ( main line station ) or ferrerais ( albufeira ).

There are trains on the coastal line but all these go through Tunes anyway.

If you are staying in Carvoeiro, then the closest station is Estombar with trains to Faro. If you go on the website www.cp.pt which is available in English, you can print off the timetable for the day you wish to travel.

Prices are very reasonable and the trains are always on time!

The only difference is that from Tunes you can get the express as opposed to the local " stopping trains ".

If time is not a problem then the local is fine.

time is not an issue as we cant check in at faro till 2pm , so i thought we may as well go by train , can you buy tickets at all stations , ie. estombar and silves .

Not certain, but I think you pay the guard on the train.

You are right - the guard comes along on the train and you order and pay for your tickets then

I normally buy our tickets online in advance

Having travelled from Estombar to Faro and from Tunes to Lisbon on the train,
it never ceases to amaze me that even the smallest station has a cafe/bar. How very civillised!
I'm sure more people in the Uk would get the train to work if they could have their breakfast on the station
and probably linger for a after work drinkie on the way home
