Looking for a long let

We are looking for a (min) 2 bed place to rent for at least 6 months from Feb/March, doesn't have to be in Cvo, but within 10 or 15 minutes drive would be nice. Must accept well behaved dogs.

Any ideas?

only by looking the algarve resident...long term is always tricky...the laws on tenancy are so weighted in favour of the tennant that most owners are very frightened to rent out long term..i know from bitter experience when one house i looked after which was rented out to someone from uk for 6 months who would not leave....i tell you truly it was a NIGHTMARE to get them out...my advice to anyone renting out long term their villa is be very very careful

Thank you guest, for making our life just that little bit harder than it has to be.

Obviously we look in the resident and the 123 every week but strangely enough they are generally no longer available, even when we ring on the day of publication.

We asked for advice on finding a long let, not for people to be put off - and please don't assume that we would be difficult tenants because I can assure you we are not! It's always dangerous to make assumptions and generalisations.

I thought the aim of this website was to be helpful and provide information - obviously not.

Ill e-mail a friend of mine at Monte CVO for you---see if she knows of anyone you can contact --shes lived there for quite a long time and may be able to advise you---she does hol let of her town house -butdont know if she'd do long let.
But theres no harm in my asking --and she may be able to put you onto somebody who does.

Tj, We came over before buying in Feb 03. We had a 6 month let in centre of Carvoeiro with manager of Casa Brigitte Laura Taveira. Her son has lovely place here but lives in Kew London. Don,t know of any of his plans for this year but worth a phone call. Are you in pt now???

“We asked for advice… not for people to be put off” Guest may not have given you the answer you wanted to hear, but he/she went to the trouble of answering your query with an valid explanation, based on first-hand experience, of why it is so difficult

Sorry you have not got the immediate helpful response you were looking for but please do not tar the whole of this website on the only response you had had so far (which to be fair was someone who had taken the trouble to offer ideas on where to look and to advise you as to why it may be problematic finding long term lets) 'cos that would be a shame as we really are a helpful bunch. As you can see the more helpful responses are coming now, and it is also likely that many more people will respond after the weekend. It tends to be a lot quieter on here at the weekend.

I think it's quite sad that a perfectly reasonable enquiry degenerates so quickly.

I know several visitors who have had their first post torn apart and it has been so off-putting that they don't bother with this site any more, which is a shame.

I am a letting agent and judging From your reply to the innocent reply you got I would guess that you would be a difficult tenant. You might pay your rent on time but I bet you would give the landlord a run for there money by making life difficult for them!!

Do we need to resort to personal criticism? You have no idea who tj is and what their circumstances might be and I think it is totally unnecessary.

Personally I don't see anything in tj's posts that warrants this kind of attack, I do however understand their frustration at the type of responses they have had. I'm sorry carvoeiro is represented like this.

I do not normally get involved in this type of discussion, but it is happening so frequently I'm afraid I can't ignore it any more.

I am sorry that this has all turned somewhat unpleasant, there was absolutely nothing wrong with your original questions, unfortunately the responses from Guest under this heading and Martin under Car Importation were amongst the early ones you read, they are both very valid responses and undoubtedly based on experience, with the intention of providing you with an insight to the problems that may occur when trying to achieve your goals. I don't doubt that they were well intentioned and offered as being helpful localised insight.

I suspect that it is not only you that has been poorly served by what has followed.

This and the importing a car thread give a very poor impression of the forum. It's such a shame when the rest of the site is so good and provides so much information, Steen has worked hard on it, as have many other regular contributors

I for one have had enough now though, I'm not sure I like the atmosphere here at the moment and will not continue to be a part of it.

Ive had response from friend at Monte CVO.
She gave positive response--but there is a gap---- so may not be of use to you. Anyhow--this is info:
2-bedroom/2 bathroom groundfloor town house--terrace/small sun garden--well-behaved dogs acceptable(but kept on leash in area).
Prices--From Feb6th to Mar 12th -150 euros a week-plus 50 euros (elec.gas.water)--maid service twice weekly.
Then from end of April onwards --350 week inc.all services( June would normally be much dearer)
But I dont know if any of this is suitable at all?

Thanks for posting the info Ellie, although I notice tj hasn't posted again - not that I blame him/her, this afternoon has almost been enough to stop me coming on to the site again - and that's saying something!

I really don't understand why posts have to be so personal and vindictive with so little reason, I thought we were all here to promote Carvoeiro, provide help and information as required, and maybe have some fun at the same time.

Perhaps tj will find the info anyway.
